What is this blog about?

April 23, 2008

Poetry must be about movement.  It comes from something that moves the writer to feel and write, it becomes a parcel on the page containing moving forces using the arrows of words, and it moves the reader as it lands on her/his shores like oceanic waves that sweep us when we enter the water.

For years I have been writing stuff in moments of inspiration that would catch me in all kind of places like on buses, trains, planes, hotels, at home, and for years all these sporadic writing bits lived on endless pieces of paper from white spaces on magazines to any scrap paper I could get my hands on.

Years went by and life took me to all kind of places, my teen years of Nautical College and introduction to music playing, my early 20s wild years of rock band playing, endless girls and mmm… a little bit of soft drugs :) , settling into minding my own business (literally) as a family man in my 30s, acquiring a new profession in the Information Technology field around my 40s, going back to my music and finding a new passion in web development and design as I approached my 50s. And those scattered pieces of paper with my writing on them kept piling up as years went by.

This blog is the answer to what I knew for a long time now, that one day I really need to get my act together and start collecting all my scattered papers and compiling them into one collection I could call My Poetry Book. Each poem here is contained in its own page accessible from the right column under Poem Pages, and each poem page offers its own reader’s comments at the bottom. This compilation is a work in progress and hopefully the list of poems here will grow in time as I find more notes around my stuff in the house.

I have never studied creative writing, and so my writing is the sole product of impulsive emotions. I therefore consider my writing a process of growing while writing which I hope will lead to more writing as I evolve. For this reason reader’s comments is a big part of my growing process and writing development, and your feedback, be it professional critique or feelings evoked in a casual reader, is valuable to me, and so feel free to comment on any poem be it your praise of what works or pointing at what does not work for you.

This blog is dedicated to my poetry only, more about my music can be found at Shonymusica Blog. Now, you probably want to scroll back up to see those poem pages on the right.
